The Driskill Grill's Chef de Cuisine, Skyler Golden transformed his calling for cooking into an art form. Although raised in Oregon, Chef Golden is a Texas native born in Baytown Golden incorporates his vast culinary experience while enhancing with his creativity. Chef Golden elaborates, "Having family in both states growing up, I learned different food cultures and cuisines which inspired me to always try new things."
The early influence of living and cooking in the Pacific Northwest continues to drive his culinary techniques. Chef Golden integrates fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. His philosophy is simply-well prepared local ingredients are more satisfying and memorable than over thought and overcomplicated ones.
After witnessing the influential affect food has over people, Chef Golden knew at the young age of seventeen the art of culinary was for him. He first discovered his calling in the kitchen at Ashland, Oregon's local favorite, Omar's restaurant. With a desire to learn, he developed a deep passion for the culinary field and quickly advanced throughout the kitchen brigade.
Learning from a silver winner in the 1992 culinary Olympics, Chef James Williams assisted in refining his culinary skills. With the passion to learn, a lot of persistence, hard work and guidance of Chef Williams Chef Golden reached his goal of becoming the Sous Chef at Omar's Restaurant. Chef Golden spent nine years at Omar's Restaurant learning the world of cuisine, fine wine and attention to detail. With his culinary skills Chef Golden was brought into the Driskill's 1886 Café & Bakery as a Sous Chef in 2008.
In 2010, Chef Golden was given a promotion to the Driskill Grill Chef de Cuisine to continue his creativity and attention to detail at the number one restaurant in Austin. Chef Golden expressed "I have continued to pursue my passion for cooking and my desire to never stop learning about the culinary arts." The Driskill Grill looks forward to Chef Golden's personal creative touches to his culinary cuisine.
